DUIKEN JOINS DIVE PROMOTION

The magazine DUIKEN, last year’s winner of the Pink Egg, joined the fall and winter dive promotion. The last month saw the launch of the virtual dive brochure which is part of this promotion. Starting this week, all visitors of www.duiken.nl can easily surf to Bonaire’s virtual dive brochure. The website gives this brochure a much larger audience than other media could have accomplished. Other dive websites and specialized tour operators are to follow soon. Not familiar with the dive brochure on the internet? Surf to www.basiscommunicatie.nl/bonaire/duikbrochure. The brochure is also easy to reach via the Dutch homepage on www.infobonaire.com.

NEW BROCHURES TCB EUROPE

Thanks to the support on-island, TCB Europe recently received the reprints of the dive maps and the promotional leaflets just in time for the large trade shows. They also are just in time to distribute among travel agents and tour operators in Holland and other European countries. We would like to thank everyone involved on Bonaire for their cooporation. And we will make sure the brochures will do their job in the coming months.

WWF COMES TO BONAIRE FOR TV-SHOW

WWF Holland visited Bonaire for a special show on Bonairean wildlife-care. Bonaire is the only destination in the Caribbean to be honored this way by WWF. In a series of six shows, the Dutch chapter of WWF presents six locations worldwide with an outstanding record on wildlife and environmental care. Once again STINAPA and all others on Bonaire prove the wonderful promotional impact of their good work.

TV-STARS COME TO VISIT BONAIRE FOR TRADE PROMOTION

Two famous Dutch TV-stars flew to Bonaire to film their contribution to the large winter trade promotion. It’s too soon to fill you in on all the details, but it promises once again to be a remarkable promotion. We would like to thank Harbour Village, Gerard van Erp and Hendrik Wuyts for their cooporation.

ENGLISH DIVE BROCHURE TO BE LAUNCHED

At this moment, translation is in progress and in a few weeks TCB Europe will present the English version of its virtual dive brochure. This will be our gateway to the English speaking market in Europe and other parts of the world. This dive brochure will be presented on www.infobonaire.com and websites of various European tour operators and travel agents. Also the Bonairean hotels, resorts and other members of the private sector can use this brochure for free to be added to their own website. Anyone interested, please contact PR-manager Marieke Raaff at europe@tourismbonaire.com.

TCB EUROPE JOINS LARGE PRESS EVENT

Next week TCB Europe will join the largest Dutch press event open to Antor-members only. Antor is the Dutch federation of national tourist offices. TCB Europe is one of its members and is well known and has been recognized for innovation in marketing. For this press event, our PR-team will meet several premier journalists and editors. It is one of the many activities to keep the press interested in Bonaire. These activities already resulted in five major TV-shows about Bonaire.

OVER 200 CERTIFIED DUTCH TRAVEL AGENTS

The e-learning tool of TCB Europe has turnd out to be a great success. Over 200 Dutch travel agents are already certified and can call themselves Official Bonaire Travel Agents. It seems, as predicted, that travel agents, due to budget constraints, aren’t allowed to visit trade events. This makes them even more willing to educate themselves via the internet. TCB Europe expects to translate the tool in English for the other European markets.

TCB-NEW YORK REPORT

COMMISSIONER EL HAGE ATTENDS DEMA SHOW 2004

In a show of support for the Bonairean exhibitors at DEMA Show 2004, Burney El Hage, Commissioner of Economics and Tourism, traveled to Houston to attend the four-day event. Walking the Dutch Caribbean Aisle, he was able to observe first hand the very compelling visual impact of the Bonaire space and Bonaire's anchor position at the top of the aisle, as well as the artistically decorated Bonaire booths. The commissioner had time to speak to all of the exhibitors, thanking them for the time and money they spent to take Bonaire's message to the very important dive market segment, and to walk the convention floor to see just how the competition islands positioned their products.

MEETING WITH KEY DIVE RETAILERS HELD AT DEMA SHOW

The DEMA Show promotes itself as the place to be for networking within the dive sector and this was certainly true for Bonaire this year. While at DEMA, Commissioner El Hage and Candice Kimmel from the TCB-NYC office met with the presidents of the 7 UPS (7 United PADI Stores). This group, representing dive stores in New York,  New Jersey and Connecticut, is the largest dive retailer on the East coast. The main topic of conversation was how Bonaire could work with the 7 UPS in the upcoming Adventure Travel Shows to showcase Bonaire's unique dive product as we reach out to the myriad divers and adventure travelers who attend these shows. The meeting was very satisfactory for all participants and should result in a mutually productive partnership.

DEMA SHOW 2004

Bonaire certainly did not go unnoticed this year at the DEMA Show. On behalf of the Tourism Corporation Bonaire we would like to extend our sincere thanks for the time, effort and funding that all the Bonaire exhibitors put into this show. The members of BONHATA and BHG and also our on-island partners contributed to the success of one of the best Dutch Caribbean Pavilions in years. See you in Las Vegas in 2005!

BONAIRE, ONE OF FOUR ISLANDS FEATURED IN OUTSIDE TRAVELER MAGAZINE

Bonaire was one of four islands featured in Outside Traveler Magazine’s Winter 2005 Special Edition! (circulation 300,000+), one of the top adventure travel magazines!  Set to hit newsstands later this year, TCB-NYC received an advance copy of the issue which features 3 pages on Bonaire and touts it as an amazing destination for exploring above and below the water.

The article entitled, It’s Love, Bonaire Style: On This Arid Isle, The Crush Isn’t On Lush, is a three-page spread featuring amazing photos of divers, children, tropical plants and birds.  Writer Meg Lukens Noonan, who visited the island in March 2004, documents her journey to Bonaire, guided by naturalist Jerry Ligon, with exciting details and use of visual imagery.  While on island, Ms. Noonan explored the Bonaire Marine Park, Washington-Slagbaai National Park, Lac Bay, Goto Meer, Sorobon Beach, and Lac Cai.  Ms. Noonan also mentions Buddy Dive Resort and Harbour Village Beach Club.  Photographers from Outside also visited Bonaire in July 2004 to take additional photos to accompany Ms. Noonan's article. It certainly has been worth the wait for this placement…

TCB-SOUTH AMERICA REPORT

AIRLIFT SITUATION FROM VENEZUELA TO BONAIRE

Since DCA is not flying anymore to Venezuela, we are facing air transportation difficulties. Our office is receiving many phone calls from consumers, travel agents, and operators asking us for airlift solutions to Bonaire.

At the moment, the most convenient way to connect toward Bonaire is with Aeropostal Airline with daily flights from Caracas to Curacao (see below), and then to Bonaire via BonairExel. We still need agreements between both airlines. It’s important to highlight that the previous rate from DCA on the route Caracas/Bonaire/Caracas (via CUR) was US$ 165.00 plus tax. Today visitors must pay Aeropostal´s rate US$ 124.00 (Caracas/Curaçao/Caracas) and then BonairExel’s rate US$ 90.00 (Curacao/Bonaire/Curacao). Beside the more expensive air ticket it is difficult having the inconvenience of arriving to Curaçao airport, picking up the luggage, leaving the transit area, checking in at the BonairExel counter, and finally back again to the transit area to continue the trip to Bonaire.

MEETINGS WITH THE AIRLINES CONTINUE

Our TCB office in Caracas is committed to improving the airlift. We maintain permanent contact with the local airlines in the markets connecting with the Caribbean. We are in contact Mr. Avelino Contreras, Avianca Aruba Regional Manager, informing him of our interest to achieve links between BonairExel and his airline flying five times per week from Aruba toward Rio/Sao Paulo in Brazil (via Bogotá). We expect to have those interline agreements that Bonaire deserves in place soon.

Thanks to all your efforts that made it possible to carry out the group press fam. Soon we’ll have their releases letting Ecuadorians know much more about Bonaire.
