NEW
BONAIRE AMBASSADORS
AWARDED
GOLD: |
Jesse & Patricia
Johnson |

Jesse
and Patricia recently received the
Gold Ambassador medals for 21 consecutive
years of visits to Bonaire. During
this trip, they stayed at Captain
Don's Habitat Resort, and they
tell us:
"It
was a pleasant and deeply appreciated honor
to receive the Tourism Corporation Bonaire
recognition as a "Bonaire Ambassador." We
were introduced to Bonaire diving on our
first trip some 20 years ago. Since then,
we have had the opportunity to dive in
the Red Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Ocean,
Indian Ocean, Coral Sea, and Arabian Gulf.
While each location has its own particular
set of conditions and sea life, the return
to Bonaire is what we look forward to.
"Thanks
to the vision of Cap't. Don and others,
the reef system has remained healthy. The
island is devoted to diving, but still
sensitive to the environment, and works
to maintain the precious and delicate balance
of the marine ecosystem. The absence of
strong currents certainly adds to our enjoyment
of the fish action with their rainbow of
colors, the purple and orange sponges,
coral formations and the excitement of
the sighting of a turtle, frogfish, sea
horse, or some of the more rare and exotic
marine life.
"'Bon
Bini' is
more than welcome to us. It is a return
to the most friendly and helpful people
in the world. We are honored to receive
our ambassador awards and are pleased
to be able to help introduce other divers
to the wonderful island of Bonaire."
AWARDED
BRONZE: |
Dolly
and Andy Catanzaro |
Dolly
and Andy Catanzaro received the bronze
medal during the manager’s cocktail
party at Sorobon
Beach Resort. This is the 12th
year that they are visiting our island,
and they were very happy to be awarded
the bronze medal. They can’t
wait to go for the silver one within
3 more years. Twelve years ago, they
were looking for a naturalist resort
and discovered Sorobon Beach Resort
and have since fallen in love with
the island and continued visiting Bonaire
year after year. Andy, a doctor in
Milwaukee, has a very busy life back
home. During the holidays in Bonaire
they get to do the things they enjoy
like snorkeling, flying kites, and
radio operation. Bonaire is very good
for amateur radio enthusiasts. During
their vacations they communicate with
thousands of radio amateurs from all
over the world. Radio operation, the
beautiful island, and the wonderful
people are the reasons they keep coming
back.
AWARDED

TRADE
PROMOTION HUGE SUCCESS!
TCB Europe launched its spring trade
promotion and it met with a huge success.
Travel trade professionals in the Netherlands
were invited to enter a contest to win
a special Bonaire Clothing Package along
with a windsurf clinic at the Almere Beach
(near Amsterdam). Up to now, over 200 travel
agents entered the competition. They all
had to answer some Bonaire-questions so
this promotion once again can be named
an "educational" experience, not only
fun, but also informative to the trade.

TOURISM

TCB Europe's Roger Davids
gave a presentation to a group of investors
in the Netherlands. The topic was why

TCB
EUROPE STARTS E-LEARNING PROJECT
Presently, the IT-developers
are finalizing TCB Europe's e-learning
project. The travel trade will be invited
to do their Bonaire Exam via internet.
It's a fun way to educate them on the
whereabouts of our island. Twenty questions
have to be answered before one can be
the proud owner of a Bonaire Diploma.
Only travel trade professionals who really
know the essentials of our "product"
will graduate. We'll keep you posted!

Shortly, the new Bonaire on-line

a unique service of TCB Europe aimed
at the European tour operators and
will add a little fun and Bonaire
promotion to their own web sites.
This Bonaire game will be taken from
the offline game TCB Europe made
this winter in corporation with the
new Dutch game label LunaNL.

RECENT
PUBLICATIONS
It's impossible
to feature in EntreNous every
piece of free publicity generated
by TCB Europe, so we only name
a few. Last month we were featured
in Bruid & Bruidegom
(to promote our islands for honeymoon
and weddings), Grande (aiming
at the wealthy tourists) and
Reisrevue (a series of trade

POSITIVE CONTACT WITH THE LIMA TOURISM SECTOR--MAY
20TH TO THE 22ND
For two consecutive years
Bonaire was at SIT, the most important Peruvian
trade show. We had a busy work agenda in
Lima that also included very important meetings
with the main tour operators and training
its sales force and an official Bonaire presentation
directed towards the tourism sector. We also
had a strategic meeting with the Commercial
and Marketing Managers of KLM Lima. The Bonaire
Delegation returned to the island with much
enthusiasm and commitment to the tourist
market of Peru, and to follow up on this
promotional visit that seeks to increase the
Peruvian tourism to Bonaire.
The SIT trade show took place in Lima from
May 20th to the 22nd. The Bonaire Delegation
was represented by Harbour Village, Sun Rental
Apartments, Lagoen Hill, Divers Paradise, Buddy
Dive, Bellafonte, Windsock, Hamlet Oasis, Bonaire
Tours, AB Car Rental and the TCB representative,
Yasmin Pérez.
Everyone promoted not only their
properties, but also the island. These were
three days with a lot of activities in the
30-meter booth surrounded by a Bonaire
ambience. Tables dressed with multicolor fish
tablecloth highlighting the new Spanish language
Bonaire brochure and the Bonaire official
Spanish video playing constantly on a 36” monitor,
which attracted many visitors from this
important tourist market centered in Lima.
There were a lot of expectations
around the booth of Bonaire since the Peruvian
travelers do not need visas to enter Bonaire
and also there are non-stop flights on the
prestigious KLM Airways.
TCB would like to thank BHG and Bonhata members
for all their support in making this event
possible.
THE NUEVO
MUNDO STAFF IS FAMILIARIZED WITH THE ISLAND
OF BONAIRE
During the trade show,
a special edition of “Discover Bonaire” was
prepared by TCB along with BHG and Bonhata.
As a team they trained the sales force of
the main wholesalers, familiarizing them
with the island and their properties. The
participants was very enthusiastic and interested
with the presentation, which combined images
of Bonaire in flash and also video in a very
attractive way and permitted our colleague,
Yasmin Perez, to exchange with them general
information about Bonaire. It also served
as a profile of our visitors and explored
the different activities on the island, specifically
the quality of the diving which makes Bonaire
stand out as a "Divers' Paradise." It also
featured island entertainment, a calendar
of events, dining, weddings, and the different
accommodations offered on Bonaire by BHG
and Bonhata. At the end of the 45-minute
presentation, all the participants felt more
familiarized with Bonaire and hope to visit
the island soon to experience it personally.
The Nuevo Mundo group is represented by the
operators Uniglobe, Viajes Ripley, Destinos
Mundiales, and Camino Real Representaciones.

PERUVIAN
JOURNALISTS VISITING BONAIRE
During the Dive Festival, the
island will host an important press fam-trip
from Peru as a result of the recent visit of
the Bonaire delegation to the SIT trade show.
The journalists, including a TV channel, will
be accompanied by Mrs. Birgit Bauer, KLM Marketing
Manager.
Harbour Village will be the
host hotel, Bonaire Tours the official land
island transportation, and a program well designed
by TCB is being put together so that the press
group will be familiarized with the different
activities of the island. Further information
is forthcoming in our next issue of Entre Nous.

OFFICIAL
VISIT TO ECUADOR
Due to the proximity of the
high season in June, TCB has been in conversation
with the new KLM Marketing Manager in Quito,
Mrs. Marie Noell. The plan is to coordinate
an official presentation of Bonaire with its
tourism sector, meet with the main dive and
tour operators, and also with the specialized
press.
According to our data base,
Ecuador and Peru are similar in their marketing
behavior to the markets that we usually serve,
which is why we are developing strategies to
introduce and consolidate Bonaire, similar
to the ones used successfully in Venezuela
and Colombia.
For more information on this
new visit to Ecuador market, contact Yasmin
at flamingorep@cantv.net.

LA
VERDAD NEWSPAPER PROMOTING WINDSURFING
We were pleasantly surprised
when the Consul of Holland in Maracaibo (petroleum
city of Venezuela) Mr. George Vick, sent us
a copy of the magazine “Truism” that
is inserted in La Verdad newspaper and shows
two full-color pages promoting windsurfing
on Bonaire.
The article, written by the
journalist Nervis Araujo, and tittled “Bonaire
un Iidilio Para el Turismo Deportivo”,
describes Bonaire as an ideal island to practice
diving and windsurfing in its pristine waters
and the gentle breezes. In the article, Elvis
Martinus is quoted, talking about this new
sport that has given opportunities to the young
Bonaireans and whom are successfully competing
all over the world.
The writer further describes
mountain biking and the other official competitions
in the official calendar of the island. The
travel agency in Maracaibo, Viajes Gèminis
appears promoting Bonaire with attractive weekend
packages starting from US$ 235.00 p/p in triple
room including air ticket, taxes and breakfasts.

APRIL
7th--FLAMINGO REP'S ANNIVERSARY
Last April 7th we
celebrated our anniversary, seven years
of continuous work in the positioning of Bonaire
in the Latin-American market. We give special
recognition to the different sectors of the
members of the tourism industry in Bonaire,
as well as in Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador,
Colombia, Brazil, and the other countries whose
support has been fundamental in advancing the
position of Bonaire in these markets, even
more now in turbulent times that have touched
us in these last years.
As always we are optimistic
from all the relationships established, the
improvements achieved in the air connections
through KLM, and more recently BonairExel,
that we are heading in the right direction.
Due to the social and political
situation, Venezuela continues presenting a
very slow reaction in the market for Bonaire
and the other destinations, mainly because
of more than twelve months without access
to American currency.
This year, the anniversary date
coincided with the elaboration of the new Spanish
Bonaire brochure to be directed to the tourism,
diving and ecoadventure sector, which was released
during SIT trade show Lima. The promotional
material will support our 2004 image campaign
in the South American markets and it was made
in glossy paper, 8 full color pages with updated
institutional information and beautiful images
showing all that Bonaire offers to its visitors.
