BONAIRE AMBASSADORS
|
AWARDED: |
Kim
Smedley, Montgomery, Alabama, USA |
Kim receives her Bronze Ambassador award
after celebrating her tenth year of visits
to Bonaire . She is delighted to join her
husband, Tom, who received his bronze medal,
also at Bon
Bini Divers, in March, 2003.
Kim tell us, "Ten years ago friends
wanted to join us on a diving vacation. I
began to
research and talk with other people. One place
consistently received raves. We booked the
trip and fell in love with Bonaire. Our first
trip here the plane was delayed from take-off
because of Flamingos on the runway! I have
enjoyed so many things here especially exploring
the island both topside and under the water.
Bonaire is just as beautiful now as it was
ten years ago. Thank you for the honor of
being named an Ambassador. I feel like I should
give you an award for the joy I have experienced
here. I can’t wait for year eleven."

AWARDED: |
Ingrid
Kell, Munich, Germany |
On
December 20, 2003, Ingrid received her Bronze
Medal at a surprise reception on the patio
of Ocean
View Villas. Ingrid is the first recipient
of the Ambassador Awards from Germany.
When asked how she felt about Bonaire, Ingrid
told us, "As usual, I fled from the cold
winter of Munich, Germany, to Bonaire, my
second home, of which I dream so often when
I feel stressed or frustrated by my job or
other troubles. I just arrived in Bonaire
for my tenth vacation on this island that
I fell in love with back in 1993!
"I came home to Ocean View Villas, which
I discovered in 1994, and where I experience
the most friendly, generous hosts I could
ever imagine. Tim and John take wonderful
care of me and all my needs and desires. In
their villas, I have found the peace, total
privacy, and intimacy I longed for in order
to relax and find a total revival of body
and soul.
"Going to the beach each morning, gazing,
full of happiness, at the flamingos passing
on their way in the sky, listening to the
calming roar of the sea, and smiling at the
depressive cry of the donkeys during sunset--in
these moments I stand still and hear my inner
voice whispering: 'Yes, here is the place
where you belong. Take it as your very personal
mercy.'
"And, with these thoughts, I thank Bonaire
and all its inhabitants for making me so welcome.
I hope to spend another dozen years visiting
here on this island."

She
loves to snorkel and has a great pair of eyes!
She spots many creatures during her daily snorkel

GOLDEN
FLAMINGO AT VAKANTIEBEURS UTRECHT
This January 13th Holland's
most important trade show starts once again
with the "trade day." All major
buyers and other professionals in tourism
will come to Utrecht to meet and greet,
contact and contract. TCB Europe is hosting
a Bonaire Event to present this year's "Golden
Flamingo" award. Since tourist numbers
did increase quite a lot in 2003, many more
entry cards had to be counted since this
annual presentation is a people's choice
award. Bonaire tourists nominated their
travel professional for best Bonaire travel
agent. In 2001 Maduro Travel won, last year
Bonaire Fun Travel and this year's election
once again turns out to be a close finish
between the previous winner and ABC Travel,
last year's runner up. This year's surprise
is The Vacation Store, a new tour operator
and up for a spectacular entrance in the
Bonaire top-5. The last cards still have
to be counted, so no cheering yet. The announcement
is to be made on Tuesday.

invited to join. The entries are still
being judged, and the winners will be
awarded their bags at the Vakantiebeurs

REPORT UP TO 275,000 EUROS FREE PUBLICITY
Bonaire is still going strong
in gaining free publicity in Europe. These
months TCB Europe scored over 275,000

featuring Bonaire and windsurfing news.

sent to the BHG and Bonhata offices, as
well as the TCB office in Kralendijk.

BONAIRE
IN OCEAN DRIVE MAGAZINE
A special Christmas Holiday edition
titled OD Navidad was published by this high
class magazine. Among the articles was one titled
"Navidad turquesa en aguas Caribeñas",
written by Tzeitel Toffel. It described the
Christmas traditions of the different destinations
in the Caribbean. In the ABC Islands (considered
an attractive option due to its close location
to Venezuela), Bonaire celebrated Sint Nicolaas'
arrival on December 5th, when all the children
are given presents. This tradition is reminiscent
of how the holiday is celebrated in Amsterdam,
where Sint Nicolaas comes from Spain in a big
ship.
The issue comes with three beautiful
full color pictures of Bonaire and also mentions
the Maskarade parade that takes place after
the New Years Day Celebration. Among the accommodations,
Eden Beach and Divi Flamingo are offered as
properties in Bonaire which accept bolivares
(Venezuelan currency), for the payment of their
packages
