Cruise Tourism Update

Bonaire’s cruise season is slowly coming to an end. In the six month period, over 180,000 passengers were welcomed to our beautiful shores. The majority of the passengers who visited fell in love with our dushi Bonaire and promised to return for a longer stay. While we are approaching the low season with its absence of port calls from the cruise lines, we are already preparing and looking forward to the next season which kicks off on September 22nd with a call from the Pullmantur Monarch.

The forecast for 2016 reflects a positive year for Cruise tourism on Bonaire with a very busy high season in the works. For the very first time, the cruise ships will continue to call on Bonaire during the summer months which will result in additional income for Bonaire’s economy.

In the first quarter of 2015, the Bonaire Cruise Tourism Delegation held numerous meetings with many of the top Cruise Line Executives during an FCCA (Florida Caribbean Cruise Association) Platinum Member event in January and during the Cruise Shipping Miami Conference in March. The main topics of discussion during these meetings were the itineraries for 2017 and Bonaire’s performance throughout the current season. It is our pleasure to report that Bonaire is fairing extremely well and is ranking among the top five (5) ports of call in the entire Caribbean region.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the stakeholders for their diligence and for their contributions towards raising Bonaire’s profile in Cruise tourism and most importantly, the people of Bonaire that give our cruise ship passengers the reasons to return to our beautiful island and the chance to experience a fantastic holiday destination.
